Moving to Bengaluru with a dog, the flat is the easy part to judge. What you can't see on a site visit is whether there is a vet open at 2 am, who will walk the dog on your long days, and whether the society will make your life hard. This page tells you what to check before you sign, then shows what each part of the city has.

The numbers come from the 378 dog services we list across Bengaluru. They show what is within a short ride of an area, not how good the area is.

Check these before you sign

Nine checks, in the order they matter. The first three are about the area, the rest about the flat.

"Open all night" means the clinic lists 24-hour opening, with us or on its own website. Always phone before you drive: some clinics keep a nurse on site at night and call the vet in.

In every table below, daycare and boarding and walkers are the ones we list. App-based walkers also cover much of the city, so an area showing none may still be served. Ask them for your pin code.

North Bengaluru

80 services and 21 vets. Two vets open all night, in RMV 2nd Stage and Kalyan Nagar. Yelahanka has none.

Yelahanka and Jakkur132None. Nearest: RMV 2nd Stage50

What to check here. In Yelahanka and beyond, your night vet is in RMV 2nd Stage, on the far side of Hebbal flyover, so drive it once at night and once at 9 am. The two Yelahanka vets we list close by 8 pm. The north's low-cost option is the Veterinary College Hospital at Hebbal, which is in our guide to affordable and government vets.

East Bengaluru

44 services and 13 vets. Five vets open all night, three of them around Indiranagar and Domlur. Whitefield has none.

Marathahalli and Mahadevapura831 in the area: Vetic, Marathahalli30
Bellandur and Sarjapur Road72None. Nearest: Vetic, Marathahalli, or Domlur20

What to check in Whitefield. Both vets we list in Whitefield close at 9 pm, and Vetic's own Whitefield clinic closes at 8 pm. After that, your nearest open clinic is in Marathahalli, so everything depends on which side of Whitefield the flat is on. A flat near Hope Farm or Kadugodi adds the whole length of Whitefield Main Road to that drive. Do it once at night before you sign. Boarding is the area's strong point: five of the nine services we list are boarding and daycare, because there is space for kennels on the edges. We list one walker, so sort out the working day before the lease, not after.

Central Bengaluru

32 services and 7 vets. No vet open all night, and no boarding around Frazer Town.

AreaServicesVetsNight vetDaycare and boardingWalkers
Chamrajpet and Wilson Garden174None. Nearest: Jayanagar32
Frazer Town and Shivajinagar153None. Nearest: Indiranagar01

What to check here. The centre is well placed but thin: you go outwards for a night vet, to Indiranagar from the Frazer Town side and Jayanagar from the Chamrajpet side. Half of what we list here is pet shops. The Government Veterinary Hospital at Vasanth Nagar is the public option. Cubbon Park is the one thing no other part of the city has, and its rules are below.

South Bengaluru

158 services and 33 vets, with eight open all night. The best-covered part of the city.

Koramangala224None. Nearest: LeelaVet in BTM, or Domlur23
Electronic City1331 in the area: Advitha Pet Hospital80

What to check here. Night cover is rarely the problem in the south, so look harder at the flat and the society. Koramangala and Banashankari are the two exceptions: plenty of vets by day, none open all night, so save a BTM, J P Nagar or Jayanagar clinic. Electronic City has kennels and one all-night hospital but little else. We list no walker there, so the working day needs a plan.

West Bengaluru

64 services and 17 vets. Two vets open all night, both in Nagarbhavi.

AreaServicesVetsNight vetDaycare and boardingWalkers
Rajajinagar and Basaveshwar Nagar257None. Nearest: Nagarbhavi, or RMV 2nd Stage35

RR Nagar and Kengeri152None. Nearest: Nagarbhavi21
Jalahalli and Chikkabanavara41None. Nearest: RMV 2nd Stage10

What to check here. The west has more vets than the east and gets far less attention. Its night cover is all in Nagarbhavi, which works for Vijayanagar and RR Nagar and less well for Kengeri. RR Nagar and Kengeri have five of the 29 trainers we list, more than any other area. The Government Veterinary Hospital in Rajajinagar is the public option.

Our 24-hour vets in Bengaluru guide has each night clinic's number, and what to say when you call.

Your society, and your rights

A society can't ban your dog, stop it using the lift or fine you for keeping it. A landlord can refuse to rent to you.

The Animal Welfare Board of India's circular to housing societies is clear. A society:

  • can't ban residents from keeping dogs, even if most residents vote for it or the bye-laws are rewritten
  • can't limit dogs by size, or use barking as the reason for a ban
  • can't stop dogs using the lifts, or charge for it
  • can't impose fines or special charges on pet owners
  • can't insist on a muzzle

It can ask you to keep your dog on a leash in common areas and to clean up after them. On gardens and parks inside the society, the circular calls a ban short-sighted and tells the committee to set walking times instead, so expect to be given hours.

Most disputes settle once a polite letter citing the circular lands on the committee's desk, so keep a copy on your phone.

Landlords are different. A private landlord can refuse to rent to you because you have a dog. If yours agrees, get the permission written into the rental agreement.

New rules on the way

A draft would cap dogs by the size of your home: one dog in a flat of up to 581 sq ft. It is not in force.

Bengaluru's five city corporations are drafting common pet dog licensing bye-laws. The draft prepared by the East Corporation, reported in September 2026, would:

  • make registration compulsory for every dog over three months old, renewed each year, at ₹500 a dog and ₹50 for Indian and mixed-breed dogs
  • limit the number of dogs by the built-up area of the home: one dog up to 581 sq ft, two from 581 to 1,163 sq ft, and three from 1,453 to 2,325 sq ft
  • require any dog beyond the second to be an Indian or mixed-breed dog
  • make vaccination, sterilisation and microchipping compulsory
  • stop societies from imposing a blanket ban on dogs
  • require breeders, pet shops, trainers and grooming centres to register

None of this applies until the state government notifies it, and an official told the Deccan Herald it may not be enforced straight away. If you have two dogs or plan a second, it is still worth knowing the built-up area of a flat before you sign.

Parks and walks

Cubbon Park allows dogs on a six-foot leash. Most daily walks happen on the streets near home.

Bengaluru's big parks are run by the state Horticulture Department. At Cubbon Park, the department's guidelines, issued in December 2021, say dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet, owners must pick up after them and carry the rabies vaccination certificate, and owners are liable for any bite or injury. They also bar "ferocious and larger breed dogs", so if yours is big, ask at the gate before you plan a morning there. Lalbagh has rules of its own on the board at the gate.

For everyday walks you will depend on the residential streets and small layout parks near home, which is why the 7 am and 7 pm walk is on the list above.

Common questions

Quick answers to what people ask most.

Which part of Bangalore is best for dog owners?

On services nearby, the south: 158 of the 378 dog services we list and eight of the vets open all night. J P Nagar and Bannerghatta Road have the most, with 39 services and three night vets.

Is Whitefield good for dog owners?

It works if you plan for the night. Whitefield has two vets and five boarding and daycare places among those we list, but no vet open after 9 pm. The nearest all-night clinic is Vetic in Marathahalli.

Is there a 24-hour vet in Whitefield?

No. Vetic in Marathahalli lists 24-hour opening and is the nearest. After that, Cessna Lifeline and Vetic in Domlur, or Lucky Paws at Budigere Cross.

Can my society stop me using the lift with my dog?

No. The AWBI's circular says societies can't stop pets using lifts or charge for it. They can ask you to keep your dog on a leash.

Can a landlord refuse to rent to me because I have a dog?

Yes. The AWBI circular binds housing societies, not a private landlord choosing a tenant. Ask before you pay a token, and get the permission written into the rental agreement.

Are dogs allowed in Cubbon Park?

Yes, on a leash no longer than six feet, vaccinated against rabies, and with the owner cleaning up after them. The park's guidelines bar ferocious and larger breed dogs.
