Ask anyone how they found their vet and you get the same answer in slightly different words. Someone in the building. A friend of a friend. A pet-parents group with four hundred members and no pinned message. A voice note from 2023 that people are still forwarding.
It is tempting to read that as people being casual about it. It is not that.
There is nothing to look up
Of the 2,693 dog-relevant places in this directory, 1,296, very nearly half of them, have no website at all. Not a thin one. None. 140 have no opening hours recorded anywhere. And no price reaches this directory for a single one of them.
Every one of them has a phone number. That is the whole of the public record: a name, a pin on a map, and a number that may or may not be answered.
There is one other number, and it does not help either. three in four of these places rate 4.5 stars or better, and the middle half of the entire directory is separated by 0.4 of a star. A score almost everyone wins is not a recommendation. It is a participation marker. At eleven at night it is worse than useless, because it looks like information.
So the group chat is not a shortcut past the record. The group chat is the record. It is the only place anyone has written down that the clinic down the road is patient with a frightened dog, or that the boarding place stops answering after eight.
Then there is the other night
For most of the year this costs you an afternoon. Three calls instead of one. A drive to somewhere that turned out to be shut.
And then there is the night nobody talks about until it happens to them. Tick fever that went one day too long. A road accident on a service lane. A vet who says the word transfusion, and then says the harder part: not here.
What follows is not medicine, it is logistics. Calls to clinics that ring out. A group where somebody knows somebody with a big, calm Labrador. A drive across the city at one in the morning on the word of a stranger.
We went looking for how many places in Mumbai can actually put blood into a dog. We found three.
Not three good ones. three.
So we started writing it down
This is that group chat, written down and dated. Every listing carries what reviewers actually said, listed separately rather than averaged into one number: what they consistently praise, and what they consistently warn about. The full star distribution is on the page too, because three hundred five-star reviews and two furious one-stars is a different business from a steady spread.
And where nobody has recorded the hours, or whether anyone is on site overnight, the page says so in those words. An unknown is a first-class answer here.
One thing the numbers above cannot tell you. No price reaches this directory for any listing: the imported source carries none, and half these businesses have no website to publish one on. And these records were imported from an existing pet directory, which set a bar for inclusion: nothing here rates below 4.0, and nothing has fewer than 10 reviews. So this page does not claim that no badly-rated dog business exists in India, only that among the 2,693 you can browse here, the public record does not tell them apart.
