A puppy needs a short series of vaccinations in its first four months, then boosters every year. At a private clinic in Bengaluru the first course usually adds up to somewhere between ₹5,500 and ₹8,000, depending on the clinic and the vaccine brand. After that, expect a few thousand rupees a year on boosters.

The schedule and what each dose costs

Your vet may adjust the timing for your puppy's age and health, especially for a rescued puppy with no records, but the usual pattern looks like this. Prices are for organised private clinics in 2026.

Most clinics also charge a consultation fee for each visit, though some fold it into the vaccine price. Ask which applies before the first appointment.

On the card, the combination vaccine is often written as DHPPiL, sometimes with an extra leptospirosis strain added, and you'll see brand names on the stickers too. The letters tell you more than the brand does.

The cheaper route: government hospitals

Rabies vaccine can cost as little as ₹50 to ₹100 a dose. Expect a longer wait.

Government veterinary hospitals charge much less. The catch is usually a longer wait and less choice about timing. Our guide to affordable and government vets in Bengaluru has the hospitals and their numbers.

Bengaluru's civic vaccination drives mostly focus on street and community dogs, so for a pet you'll generally be going to a government hospital or a private clinic.

Don't skip the third dose

Finish the course, even if your puppy looks perfectly healthy after two shots. Parvovirus and distemper are common in India and they kill puppies.

The antibodies a puppy gets from its mother can block the earlier doses from working, which is why the third one is so often the dose that actually protects. A puppy with parvo can need days in hospital on a drip, which costs far more than the whole vaccination course and still might not save them.

Rabies vaccination is also a legal requirement in most cities, and you'll need the certificate again and again: for registration, boarding, travel and, in Bengaluru, for parks like Cubbon Park.

Keeping the bill sensible

Two things get muddled with vaccinations, and both are separate. Deworming happens several times in the first months. It's cheap, and some clinics bundle it into the visit. Tick prevention is separate too, and in Bengaluru it's worth starting as soon as your vet says your puppy is old enough. Our tick fever guide explains why.

Until the course is finished

Carry your puppy outdoors until about two weeks after the last combination dose.

A puppy isn't fully protected until about two weeks after the last combination dose. Until then:

  • carry them on streets and in parks, and don't let them walk there
  • avoid places where lots of unfamiliar dogs go: parks, pet shops and grooming salons
  • do let them meet healthy, vaccinated dogs you know, in a clean garden or at home

Don't shut them away completely. The first few months are when puppies learn what the world is like.

Finding a vet

We list 91 vets in Bengaluru. When you ring round, ask the price of the combination vaccine and the rabies vaccine, and whether the consultation is included. That's enough to compare clinics fairly. Common questions

Quick answers to what people ask most.

How much is the anti-rabies vaccine for dogs in Bangalore?

Around ₹400 to ₹700 a dose at private clinics, and as little as ₹50 to ₹100 at government veterinary hospitals.

Can my puppy go outside before the vaccinations are finished?

Yes, in your arms, and they can meet vaccinated dogs you know. Keep them off streets and out of parks until about two weeks after the final dose.

Do adult dogs need vaccinations every year?

Yes, a combination booster and a rabies booster, though your vet may suggest a different schedule for older dogs.

My rescued puppy has no records. What happens now?

Your vet will start the series based on the puppy's estimated age. Vaccinating a puppy with an unknown history is safe.
